How rare is achalasia?
The incidence of achalasia is approximately 1 new case per 100,000 (some studies show 150,000 to 200,000) people per year.  It is usually
diagnosed in adults, although rare can occur in children as well. There is no particular race or ethnic group that is affected, and the condition
does not run in families.  


Is there a cure for achalasia?
At this time there is no known cure for achalasia, there is only management of the symptoms, and treatments to help our long term health.


Does achalasia go away?
No.  While your symptoms my subside sometimes, this disease unfortunately does not go away.
